Number Rockets is a structured paid math intervention program designed for first-grade students who need extra help catching up with grade-level math skills. It’s a Tier 2 intervention aimed at students who are struggling and need a bit more support.
The tutoring is provided by experienced retired teachers and substitute teachers in small groups of 2 to 3 students. The program focuses on building a solid understanding of math concepts by guiding students from hands-on, concrete activities to more abstract ideas and procedures—ultimately helping them master math facts.
Each session lasts 40 minutes and takes place daily over 17 weeks, totaling 63 sessions. Number Rockets is meant to complement the students’ regular math instruction and provide additional reinforcement. Tutors receive one full day of training before starting, plus two additional two-hour booster sessions to ensure they’re delivering the program effectively throughout.
